- Age and licence. Most self-drive luxury hire sets a minimum age, commonly twenty-five and often twenty-eight or thirty for high-performance supercars. You will usually need to have held a full licence for a set number of years, with a reasonably clean record.
- A security deposit. Expect a sizeable refundable deposit held against your card for the duration of the hire, reflecting the value of the car rather than the length of the rental.
- Insurance and the excess. Comprehensive cover is normally included for the named driver, but the excess you are liable for in the event of damage can be very high, and any additional driver has to be declared and added.
